Best Ways to Reuse Old Clothing

Clothes are something that is vital in this society. However, thanks to ever-increasing greed, clothes don't last nearly as long and many pieces are doomed to fill already-overflowing landfills. So, when something barely survives the washer either due to age or because it's a glorified piece of trash, what do you do? What is the next course of action? Should you throw it away?

Well, of course not! Nobody buys clothes just to throw them straight into the trash. You may as well be throwing money away directly. So, here is a small collection of projects you can do instead. Whether they are practical for you will depend on the clothing you wish to use and its quality. Some cloths will fare better in some use cases than others, many might not be able to be reused at all! But the fact that you are here and considering reusing them puts you leagues ahead of the majority of people out there, who simply don't care enough to bother.

Pillow cases

If you have something soft such as pajamas, consider turning them into a pillowcase. Turning old soft textiles into pillow cases can be a great way to freshen up your home decor without buying anything new. The material will need to be something that can survive washes for maintenance and hygiene, so it's not like just anything can be used. However, if you have good material, then turning clothing into pillow cases can turn your home from something you may find anywhere to something that is truly yours.

Patches

If the fabric has some kind of image or a cute pattern on it, then it's a great chance to reuse them as unique patches! Whether you want to customize something or have a piece of clothing damaged, patches are something that are popular with a variety of subcultures and can easily turn something bland and basic into a work of art. Sure, they may not be iron-on, but they can still prove to truly be amazing if you have a little bit of sewing know-how. So, don't be afraid to be poked by a needle or two. There is a world of patches out there waiting for you to be brave enough to try them out!

Denim Bags

Denim is a great material to use for things such as bags. Denim was originally invented for blue-collar workers (and we are talking neon blue), as it was a sturdy material that can survive the harshest of movements. While modern denim may be softer due to the decline of the type of jobs they were made for, good-quality denim will still be sturdy enough for many tasks that normal fabric is simply not up for.

This pouch right here is something I made for my CD player out of a pair of jeans that got worn down at the inner thighs. It holds the CD player perfectly as long as I remember to close it. If I forget to, then the CD player likes to jump out randomly. So, perhaps the design is flawed, but it works for something I made for personal use. I do have some more material to work with that I intend to turn into two ita bags, one to keep for myself and the other to sell.

Stuffed animals

How symbolic it would be to turn any clothes from your childhood into a teddy bear for your child. If not your child, then, well, any child, even if it's a donation to a charity. Something from the previous generation being passed on to the next in a new form. That, or you love stuffed animals as much as I do and want something both unique and deeply personal in your own collection. Either way, you have plenty of perfectly good fabrics for teddy bears deep in your wardrobe. The best part is that they will be special to someone, either it be you or whoever is meant to have it as a gift.

Pet Toys

You can get a little more use out of them by turning them into something that can enrich your pet. Be careful what pet you reuse what material with, as cloths may be too dangerous for certain animals. However, I have provided two links that have a couple of ideas. One for dogs, the other for cats. Perhaps one of them has an idea that will catch your idea.

Conclusion

Of course, these are only six ways you can reuse old clothing. There are plenty more projects you can do, but this should be a good springboard for coming up with ideas when you have old clothes and don't know what to do with them. Repurposing them and turning them into projects is a great way to prevent giving the planet even more waste than what is littering its limited surface. It breathes new life and gives it a second chance it may not have gotten when under the ownership of someone else.

If you used the ideas, please tag me on any platforms we are both on showing them off. I would love to see your creations and give it support! Creating things is awesome, and you are awesome for creating things!
