Top Five Five Nights at Freddy's Character, According to My Weird Tastes
Five Nights at Freddy's is a massive indie horror series that started as a last-ditch effort by Scott Cawthon who hasn't seen much success with his endeavors before that point. He created the game as a response to a criticism on his previous project equating the character designs to creepy animatronics, and many popular Youtubers picked up the scary bear game. It is pretty much history from there with the early games seeing a rapid release cycle and Scott making several "this is the final one" games.
The history of the series is enough to get an article on its own, and there are several retellings of it that can be told all over the internet. What I want to focus on is my favorite characters in the series, and why I enjoy them so much.
1. Spring Bonnie
Hands down the best character. This golden rabbit is peak and strangely underrated. Nobody seems to care about the animatronic unless there is a man wearing him like a fursuit, or there is a zombie wearing him like a moldy fursuit. It seems to be rare for people to just enjoy the bun himself, even though he looks like he would have either golden retriever or orange cat energy. But, hey, perhaps I just like him because I'm weird. After all, people don't care about Spring Bonnie for a reason. There is no reason to think about him when there are so many other characters to pick from.
With that said, Spring Bonnie is arguably the most important character in the game series. You can't have Springtrap without a Spring Bonnie, and he was the disguise that William Afton wore for his murders. While it is possible that William Afton would have just worn a different character if Spring Bonnie didn't exist and the events of the games would still happen, I feel like it would change the story in a fundamental way that would take an in-depth analysis on the various aspects of the series, such as what rabbits symbolize, in order to properly explain.
2. Helpy
Small, adorable, and just here to help! Helpy has been charming screens since Pizzeria Simulator, and the recent game indicates there is more to the history of Helpy than just some soulless corporate mascot. Honestly, goofy characters in an otherwise tense genre provides a nice contrast and can feel like a breath of fresh air. He is usually a friendly face in a hostile world, although that doesn't mean you can reliably trust every iteration of him.
If you have seen my art before, then you would know I just enjoy cute things in general. There is just something whimsical about a chibified Funtime Freddy dancing at the corner of your screen, or whatever else it is he's being used for. He is a versatile character with many roles in the story ranging from a mascot, to something the Mimic is puppeteering in order to lead you to your doom and set itself free. I hope to see more of this character's past, especially since Mr. Helpful was quite a surprise iteration with sad implications behind it.
3. Lefty
Lefty is a unique character, as not only it's not a character at all (but a trap for an actual character), but he is left-handed. I am left-handed myself, so it is a very neat trait to see in the series. He is simply a very unique bear, and there is not any other character in the entire series quite like him. I don't have much else to say about Lefty other than "he's cool." I would say I want more like Lefty, but that would erase one of the parts about the character that I enjoy.
So, I will say that I wish to see more unique characters that stand out in both small details about them and their general vibe. It's fun whenever an animatronic doubles as representation for groups that rarely get appearances in media. As long as it's not being done with the intention to harm said group, then it's just a fun extra detail that I do appreciate.
4. Map Bot
While most people find Map Bot annoying, it is perhaps the best Security Breach STAFF Bot in the entire game. It stands out because it gave Steelwool a lot of trouble in development, being the one character in the entire game that has caused the most bugs out of all of them. It has done absolutely nothing wrong, and only wants to make sure you get your map so that way you don't get lost in the sprawling Pizzaplex. It's one of the rare characters that is purely benevolent and wants you to have the best experience you can possibly have at a Fazbear location.
5. RWQFSFASXC
Finally, we have this shadow-y keyboard-smashing rabbit. It is a rare game-crashing encounter in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, looking to creep out whoever is (un)lucky enough to encounter it. The best part of RWQFSFASXC is its name, because, well, WHY?!? Nobody can pronounce that! Its name is so nonsensical, it got the even-harder-to-pronounce nickname RXQ. None of these letters are following the rules of any language, and it might even be translated to "tax evasion" in Martian or something.
The name is absolutely absurd, and there is no reason to name the character that other than to rub salt into the wound of a ruined run if you didn't react fast enough before your game shuts down. Which, with the way I'm wording this, you would think that I hate this character's name. But no, the absolute insanity that is RXQ's name is why it's on this list. It is ridiculous, and I love that shadow rabbit for it.
Conclusion
Honestly, people tend to take FNAF way more seriously than they have any business to. People will dogpile on each other for giving theories that are outside of what is considered popular consensus. This series is ultimately about pizzeria robots trying to kill you. It doesn't take itself seriously half the time, leading to some wild and goofy things such as soul juice. That is to say that the fanbase should calm down about many things and learn to laugh a little more. It doesn't mean you shouldn't take the series as a comedy and there isn't anything deep you can take from it.
But people shouldn't be taking it to the point that the popular interpretation is any more valid or correct than other interpretations. While many interpretations may be bad, and there is a reason why the popular theories are popular, hot button topics such as which child died first is irrelevant to the large scale, and it's not worth getting hung up on if all it's doing is ruining your own experience with the series.
For the record, I believe that William's youngest son was the first to die. I just think it's a good "breaking point," and having him care about his children to some extent does make him a more interesting character. I don't think he was a loving father or the roots of his care were normal or healthy in any way, but I do find having an extra dimension to a villain can really give them that extra spice that makes them more fascinating. And having him be completely apathetic to his kids would just make him boring.
