A Furry's Perspective of the Furry Community
Furries are certainly a thing that exists. There is no other way to summarize them in one sentence. They are a huge community with a variety of subcommunities inside, making anything you can possibly say about them apply to at least one individual. Furries are extremely diverse with both the good and bad that comes with it. But this does mean that a blanket statement will never adequately describe them, nor anything about the furry community created by anyone would be a sufficient summary of what they are. This is just a tiny, microscopic look into the community. Nobody will have the same experience with the community as I do. It's simply too vast, and the best you'll get is similar stories with subtle differences.
Which, my experience with the furry community is a positive one. The people I interact with are generally creative sweeties. They support me, I support them, and I get to see the cool art they create whenever I'm on the internet. Even if I don't necessarily engage with it every time, seeing the art makes my day a little brighter even while going through a rough time.
I haven't had any bad people in my circles personally, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm more than aware that this community has plenty of drama within it, and it ranges from petty squabbles to...actual crimes, to put it vaguely. They can be enjoyable to observe from a distance, although I can imagine that they're not pleasant to be involved in.
Hopefully I won't ever find myself in a situation, but nobody is immune to getting into an argument with somebody or making a mistake. All I can do about it is to be the best person I possibly can and not put myself in a position where I would be considered the bad person of a situation.
But, honestly, that's really the crux of the furry community. We are just people. We enjoy expressing ourselves using cartoon animals, and sharing it among like-minded people. It's no different from finding a community with people who enjoy Football or makeup and indulging in those hobbies together. In fact, many furries enjoy these things as well and may often find a way to combine those interests and turn them into something unique and new.
There's not much more to say about furries when it comes to my perspective on the community as a whole. This is my perception of it, and all I can say is that it's a positive one. You're not going to find kinder people than that sweaty human underneath that bright and colorful costume looking like some mutilated idea of an animal that somehow came with a smaller price tag than their rent.
It is sad that there are many people who don't want to see the heart behind the individuals of this unique group. They would rather hate them because they chose to express themselves using a normal form of cartoon characters that they see every single day since early childhood. They have nothing to gain from this. All it does is make themselves more miserable than they already are, making it poetry whenever they do get their heads out of the sand and join the community in earnest.
