Small Ways I'm Trying to Improve My Life
Right now, it seems like living my life is a tricky thing to do. I just want a somewhat decent and normal life where I feel like an adult. Which, unfortunately is not happening right now due to factors outside of my control such as the economy and having some unknown joint disorder that has an impact on things such as how long I can stay on my feet.
It doesn't mean things are completely hopeless or there is nothing I can do about it. It just means my options are more limited and less obvious than they are for the average person, and right now? Even average people are struggling.
But no matter who is struggling, focusing on what I can control does help make things marginally better. It may not be the ideal life I had in mind, but perhaps some people will steal what I'm doing and improve their own lives in ways that they can.
Making a Bulletin Board
A bulletin board is surprisingly east ro make. All I really needed was hot glue and a vision. Here, I keep track with my weekly tasks and a daily schedule, among a couple extras. It's something I've been neglecting, but the structure of it does help when I do manage to actually use the thing. I might make a digital version as a way to practice coding, mainly for the fun of it, but to also have a more convenient version that would be easier to keep up with. Plus, a digital board is something I can offer on my shop for people who would be interested in a similar tool.
Walking Everyday
When there is sunshine, I'm walking that day. I have a park right down the street with a two-mile trail, and it's perfectly safe for me to get there. Being surrounded by nature with fresh air helps keep me sane, and it's not something I could live without. Nature is an absolute must for any place I may end up living in. I doubt I would be able to stand being in a concrete jungle for any prolonged amount of time.
If I have ways of actually getting around, as I'm not in any position to own a car, then my current location would be perfect. Unfortunately, I am based in southern USA. Which, if you think your public transit situation is bad? Just go to Tennessee. The bar is lower than Hell when it comes to infrastructure, and I'm sure that the state government is finding ways to somehow do the limbo with it gleefully.
Establish Long-Term Goals
The absolute best thing I can do is to establish massive goals I wish to achieve. Move to Minneapolis, create a comic, get a day job, have my art reach a paying audience. Things like that. Most of the time, I don't really have a "how," which might be to my detriment. It's not like having a proper plan is easy, and I figured that things will eventually click into place. That eventually is yet to come, and I likely do need to change my approach. That change of approach feels like hopping onto X and Instagram despite it being against my principals, though, and I would rather avoid that as much as possible.
Focusing on Creation
If I'm being honest, I'm probably constantly close to crashing out. Living in these trying times is enough to make anyone so tense, they would probably produce a note if you pluck them. There is not much that we can do about it, but that is why my primary focus is on creating stuff. Writing for the blog, sewing like a madman, doing whatever else may fancy me at the moment. Am I making a living from it? No. But it does give me something productive to focus on. It is a distraction as well as an outlet for my energy.
Conclusion
I'm definitely doing more than these things. Studying, seeing specialists, researching for a direction for my life. Even this blog is something I do. It gets my name out there, and it is something I work on regularly. It provides a bit of structure to my life and helps develop my art career. Sure, it's small, and I'm lucky to reach twenty views on a post, but it's still a project that I take pride in.
Let's focus on the things we can control and build from there, and a great way to start is by sharing our efforts and learn from each other. So, what are you doing to improve your life? How are you living in a time that is difficult for everyone? I would love to know!
