Why Platforms for Artists Are Worthwhile

When the topic of platforms for artists comes up, many people are concerned that such platforms are a waste of time. They believe that they won't get any clients or work, as the only other people seeing their works are other artists. By dismissing these platforms, however, many artists are sleeping on something that can prove beneficial to them and their careers.

Networking

The biggest benefit and reason why many artists may use these platforms is for networking. In all honesty, all the following reasons will be variations of this very reason.

With that said, no, you can't have a career by posting in the void and disappearing. Socializing with other artists is a required part of being an artist, and you're shooting yourself in the foot by refusing to do so.

It's not even complicated to do so. All you have to do is to go to some other artists and leave a compliment on a post. Boom! That's networking!

Artists Buy From/Hire Other Artists

Artists are a viable market on their own. They often have projects they can't work on their own, enjoy seeing their characters in different styles, and often have gaps in their skills they would rather delegate than handle on their own. Plus, it's just nice to get a custom piece from someone else instead of making everything yourself.

Odds are, you likely want to support other artists as well. So, the fact that you don't see your peers as potential clients is a bit strange to me. Just a little bit.

Brings Your Work and Artist Name to More Areas of the Internet

Even if you see no point in any of the other reasons, it is hard to deny that visibility is king. Having your name and your work on more platforms helps make you easier for people to find. 

Conclusion

So, yeah. Perhaps it is not the wisest move to dismiss platforms simply because they are marketed for artists. Artists are absolutely a viable demographic, and they love supporting fellow artists. Plus, being able to make friends with like-minded people is just generally a good idea for both your well-being and career.
