Writing Prompts for When You’re Bored

When you are short on ideas or have more time than things to do, it is a good idea to take a step back and do a creative project. One such form of creativity being storytelling and writing. Whether it is something you are new at, or a seasoned pro looking for something easy, these five writing prompts should be quick and satisfying for anyone looking for ideas.

Your Alien Friend

The reader has befriended an alien and now has a creature from space in their care. It is up to you to inform them about their new friend and how to properly care for them with what is available on Earth. What does the alien eat? Are there interesting tidbits on the alien’s homeplanet? What about hygiene?

Remember to make sure that the guide is accurate and detailed. If you fail to give the caretaker adequate information, the alien might not be able to thrive even in an environment drastically different from where it came from down to the atmosphere.

My Dystopian Future

What is your idea of a nightmare society? Does it have a weird Y/A-dystopia gimmick? Is it the same as the real world, but cats ceased to exist? Is it just an exaggeration of what’s around you? Is it just North Korea?

There is an entire world of possibilities in ways you can cause mass-suffering. Nothing but your own sense of morality and imagination hold you back.

The House Dragon Infestation

Oh no! There are small dragons all over the house! They are in the cupboards, under the rugs, and even stole your television and watch it all the time! These are just some of the issues that the dragons are causing you!

Is there anything that can end this fire-breathing yet adorable blight that have gone all over your home? Or is this your life now and you have to adapt?

The Day in a Life of a Unicorn Investigator

For thousands of years, there have been rumors of this elusive creature known as a unicorn. Most people don’t believe they exist, but you are here to prove them wrong. You took on the title of “Unicorn Investigator.” Something that people clearly admire and don’t mock at all, but what do they know?

Here is a deep dive into a singular day on your lifelong mission. Do you actually find a unicorn, or are you just going to look as silly as usual? Well, why not try your luck and record what your day is like?

The Non-Spooky Ghost Story

Everybody knows what ghosts are! They are spooky, terrifying, and are often either young adults in Victorian clothing or flying white bed sheets! However, everybody knows that those are just stereotypes and the paranormal community is a lot more diverse than how people typically know them.

So, it’s about time to lay old stereotypes to rest and show people the wonderful world of ghosts that they don’t usually see. How they comfort children, party through the night on Halloween, and even how they teach life lessons on Christmas Eve. See? There’s nothing to fear at all!

Conclusion

Whether you’re instructing people on taking care of an alien or you’re looking for unicorns, these five ideas will surely be fun to write about.
